All Star: River
River and his family were busy bodies pre-diagnosis. His parents worked a lot, which left them with few opportunities to be together with their family. But on January 6, 2017, their busy lives came to a screeching halt when River was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
“We were just in complete shock and just going through the motions of each day for a while,” shared River’s mom. Life was no longer busy with long hours and working weekends, it was now busy with doctor’s appointments.
River is now currently in the “maintenance phase” of his treatment and according to his mom, he is doing great! His treatment is on track to be completed on March 13, 2020, which also happens to be River’s sixth birthday!
Their doctor at Levine Children’s Hospital mentioned Pinky Swear to them, which then led to being gifted an All-Star Weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina. “It was incredible and a great way to just have fun as a family and not think about anything else, but being with each other.” River and his family have also been able to participate in the Pinky Swear Triathlon, All-Star Picnic, and the annual Orange and Blue Gala. River’s mom’s sweet words about Pinky Swear ended with, “you can tell this organization truly cares about all the kids and families they help.”
